Most people are consuming the equivalent of 50 teaspoons of sugar every day without even realising it and this is not added sugar but glucose, the by-product of carbohydrate digestion. It may sound unbelievable yet many of you are consuming this amount plus more! It is universally thought that this increase in eating so much, processed carbohydrate rich, sugar laden food and drink has contributed to the growing health challenges of obesity, cancers and diabetes we see today.
Carbohydrates provide energy within the diet in the form of glucose (Which is just another name for sugar!). What people don’t realise is that by eating more carbohydrates than your body requires the ‘excess’ sugar / glucose produced from carbohydrate digestion will be stored as excess body fat

The basis of our Eat Well Plan is helping you to understand that, for every 5g of carbohydrate you consume, your body will break that down to the equivalent of 1 teaspoon of sugar.
For example:
1 slice of bread is 20g of carbohydrate; this one slice will convert to the equivalent of 4 teaspoons of sugar once digested
